The 2026 Cherokee comes in four trims: Cherokee, Laredo, Limited and Overland. Every one uses the same hybrid powertrain and standard 4x4. Limited and Overland reached dealers in late 2025, and the Cherokee and Laredo followed in early 2026.

This is a conventional hybrid, not a plug-in. It charges itself while you drive and brake, so there is no cord and no change to how you fuel up. The city rating is higher than the highway rating, which suits stop-and-go commuting on I-5 into Sacramento.
Every 2026 Cherokee has Jeep Active Drive I 4x4. It runs in 4x2 with the rear axle fully disconnected to save fuel and engages 4x4 automatically when needed. It is a single-speed system with no low range and open differentials, so think rain, snow and gravel roads rather than rock crawling. Selec-Terrain offers Auto, Sport, Snow and Sand/Mud modes, handy for a ski weekend at Tahoe. There is no front-drive version.

Jeep says the new Cherokee has 30% more cargo capacity than the previous generation. It rides on the STLA Large unibody platform and is built at Toluca Assembly in Mexico, with its engine and hybrid system from the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan.

The RAV4 is lighter and gets better mpg, and it matches the Cherokee's 3,500-lb rating in AWD form. The CR-V Hybrid AWD ties the Cherokee at 37 combined mpg and has more cargo room, but the Cherokee has a bit more power and tows far more. The Cherokee is the only one of the three with 4x4 standard on every trim.
Jeep revealed the 2027 Cherokee lineup in fall 2026, and orders are open now, with production starting later in 2026 at Toluca. The lineup grows to seven trims: Cherokee, Laredo, Laredo Altitude, Limited, Limited Altitude, Trailhawk and Overland.
